SY Ednbal

This is our vessel. This is our home. We bought her in Oriental, North Carolina and sailed her 600 miles down the coast (about 60 miles out to sea) to where we are now, in Melbourne Florida and moved aboard. She is a Beneteau 393 (39'3") 3 years old and had 20 hours on the engine and 300 miles on the log with all the time in Lake Erie (fresh water) so was still new. The name selection was very important. We have renamed her from Judy Beauty to Ednbal (means green tree frog in one of the Aboriginal languages - French boat, secondary colour green, Aussie name. Ednbal Flag comes from a well known "Never Give Up" situation of comic style origin, the frog although, half way down the stork's throat has a strangle hold, almost at death's door, around the stork's throat. This picture and the never give up attitude was an integral part of  Grant's (Roger's son) recovery from fully dependant quadriplegic  to an Australian Para Olympian. We have taken the same as the logo, since Ednbal is the tree frog in Australian Aboriginal

We started with the published Beneteau 393 Polars. They were a bit too optimistic for Ednbal with all the extra weight and our "cruising" mode of operation. So, we combined the original polars with Asymmetrical spinnaker performance for downwind sailing. Then we further adjusted the performance as how we normally sail her "not in hurry - comfortable and try not to break" attitude. We use polars regularly in VR Tool to optimise longer crossings whenever the latest wind and currents weather grib data are received via sailmail (usually twice a day).
